Taipei is an amazing city to visit. It is modern yet laid back with great food and nightlife. The city boasts famous attractions and a heady mix of history and culture with progressive thinking. Public transport is superb. People are in generally very friendly. It is relatively inexpensive compared to Western cities or similar Asian cities.
Tourist Attractions near AVSS 2019 Venue (~2 Hour Trip)
In the following, we provide a few spots near by the venue, each is good for around 2 hour trip and tour around.
Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂) & National Theater and Concert Hall (國家兩廳院)
- National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂) is a famous national monument, landmark and tourist attraction erected in memory of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China.
- National Theater and Concert Halls (國家兩廳院) are twin performing arts venues at Liberty Square. Completed in 1987, the landmarks stand on the south and north sides of the square with Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to the east.
Lungshan Temple (龍山寺) & Guangzhou Street Night Market (廣州街夜市)
- Lungshan Temple (龍山寺) is a Chinese folk religious temple in Wanhua District. It was built in Taipei in 1738 by settlers from Fujian during Qing rule in honor of Guanyin. It served as a place of worship place for the Chinese settlers.
- Guangzhou Street Night Market (廣州街夜市/艋舺夜市) is one of Taipei City's most local markets. Guangzhou Street has none of the flash that more modern super night markets such as Shilin have, but what is does keep is that authentic, local Taiwanese style that visitors can truly appreciate. We highly recommend you to check out at least one of the many Night Markets of Taiwan.

In the following, we also provide several recommended routes that you can further experiencing Taipei.
Recommendation Route 1 - Taipei 101 (台北101) & Xiangshan Trail (象山步道)
- Taipei 101, formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center, is a landmark supertall skyscraper in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan. The building was officially classified as the world's tallest from its opening in 2004 until the 2010 completion of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
- Xiangshan Trail (象山步道). Series of sheer paths & steps up to a viewing platform affording sweeping views of Taipei's skyline.
Recommendation Route 2 - National Palace Museum (國立故宮博物院) & Thermal Valley (地熱谷)
- National Palace Museum (國立故宮博物院). Located in Taipei. It has a permanent collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese imperial artifacts and artworks, making it one of the largest of its type in the world.
- Thermal Valley (地熱谷). Located on the foothill of Yangmingshan National Park in Beitou District. This makes Thermal Valley one of the sources of acidic sulfur hot spring in the area. Locals call it as Hell Valley as well.
Recommendation Route 3 - Taipei Zoo (台北動物園) & Maokong Crystal Gondola (貓空纜車)

- Taipei Zoo (台北動物園). A public zoological garden in Wenshan District, Taipei, Taiwan. It is the most famous zoological garden in Taiwan and a leader in conservation, research and education, and recreation. Also check out the 2019 newly open, eye-catching pavilion that was recently added to Taipei Zoo -- the Pangolin Dome -- which since its opening on July 9 has become a hot topic among visitors to the recreational facility (Taiwan News).
- Maokong Crystal Gondola (貓空纜車). A gondola lift transportation system in Taipei. It operates between Taipei Zoo and Maokong. The 4.3 km line has four stations. The facilities of the gondola were contracted to the French company.
Recommendation Route 4 - Jiufen Old Street (九份老街)
Jiufen Old Street (九份老街). Founded during the Qing Dynasty, this small town was a relatively isolated village until the discovery of gold during the Japanese occupation in 1893, quickly developing the town due to a gold rush. Many buildings in the town remain unchanged to this day, reflecting the Japanese influence on both architecture and culture on the island. The town today exists mainly as a tourist destination remembering and celebrating Taiwanese history and culture. Note this attraction is not accessible by MRT. You need to take a bus, train, or taxi to reach. Travel time is at least an hour single trip.
