I defended my PhD thesis on July 31st, 2006. I am currently working for Microsoft (Redmond, WA).

Research (See my Research Statement )
Advisor: Ian Davidson

My main areas of interest are Data Mining, Machine Learning, Data Preparation, Information Theory, Applied Probability with applications in Real World Learning Problems. In particular the main thrust of my research centers around the following areas:

Data Mining: In many real world problems, data mining algorithms have access to massive amounts of data (defense and security). Mining all the available data is prohibitive due to computational (time and memory) constraints. My research focuses on finding the smallest sufficient training set size that obtains the same accuracy as the entire available dataset.

Data Preparation and Cleaning: It is well known that a major hurdle to the successful application of data mining algorithms is the quality of data. Most mining algorithms assume the data to process is complete, error free and up-to-date. However in the real world, this is rarely the case as the data is often collected for purposes other than mining. Therefore, much effort is spent in preparing the data to fill in missing values, remove anomalies, resolve inconsistencies etc. for the mining algorithm application. My research focuses on intelligent data preparation to fix these problems by examining the data set itself so as to identify erroneous entries and then change these to be consistent with the remaining entries.
