I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the State University of New York, University at Albany.  After having worked extensively with Dr. George Berg in the Computer Science department on various challenges in bioinformatics, I am now  a research assistant working at the Gen*NY*Sis Center for Excellence in Cancer Genomics under the direction of Dr. Chittibabu Guda.

My research interest is in the field of data mining, machine learning and other statistical pattern classification models. This area of interest became more focused after working on various predictive tasks in bioinformatics, including secondary structure prediction, domain class and boundary prediction, as well as evaluation of sample bias in common protein datasets (primarily PDB.)  This work led to a successful research project with Dr. Guda on protein subcellular localization prediction during the Spring 2006 semester, at which point I moved entirely into research.

My current research is focused on development of predictive and explanatory models in various protein and DNA classification tasks at both the proteome and genome scale. I plan on extending this research toward development of classification models for any type of sequential data.

Please see my Research page for more information.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

23-Oct-2007 -- Research statement completely updated!
18-Oct-2007 -- Semi-supervised learning paper accepted in Scientific Programming.
2-May-2007 -- ngLOC paper available at Genome Biology [PDF].

UPDATE: As of August, 2006, I am no longer an instructor for the CS department. My last semester teaching was this past summer 2006 semester. Teaching these past three years has been a great experience. Special thanks to my past students, particularly to those that actually came to class. :-)
