Chengdu in 2007

I stayed in Chengdu for ten days, broken in the middle by my tour to Luding and Moxi in central Sichuan. I was the only non-Chinese person on this bus tour, and although communication was difficult, the fellowship was agreeable and fun. I never lacked for companionship, and people were continually showing me things of interest.

     Every day, I went out for a walk, into a different quadrant of Chengdu and observed the local people going about their daily routines. I usually saw various permutations of this group of young ladies in front of a store on Ren Min Bei Lu (人民北路). We would exchange "Ni Hao's" as I walked by, but on my last full day in Chengdu, they invited me to sit with them. A few beautiful cut-up oranges and a bowl of dried melon seeds appeared on the table, and we talked with the aid of my Besta CD-218 Pocket Translator. After a little while I took this picture. ( Following my return home, I sent them copies of this shot, and their reply, after an eventful journey, is now in my hands. Letter )

Snow in June Restaurant     六月雪川菜
Near my hotel was a very nice, unpretentious restaurant named "Snow in June". The food was very good, the service efficient and very friendly, and the cost quite reasonable. Best of all, although the menu was in Chinese, it was also photographic. I happily recommend Snow in June.
