Mid Term Advice:
- Be Rested.
- The exams for the last two years were open book/open notes,
this years will be open books/open notes (your
own of course). You may bring copies of the lecture
notes, and your hand written lecture notes.
However, remember that it is against the
rules of the course to possess the solution key
from text books. In 1999 I used a different text
(Keshav) and also taught 416.
- Bring a calculator, you may need to do some arithmetic.
Do NOT plan on sharing a calculator during the exam.
- Doing a symbolic solution before plugging numbers
in is a good practice, be sure to define notation
(like we do in class).
- If you are not sure of how to interpret some aspect of a
question ask. Answers of common interest will be announced
to the entire class.
- Midterms from the Fall 2000 course.
- The Fall 2000 Midterm for CSI 516 (a typo on the cover
page implies a 1999 test date but it is really the
Fall 2000 exam):

Gzipped PostScript and

- Check your answers (after doing the above problems):

Some examples you can try, they are from 1999 (CSI 416/516).
we used a different book and the class structure was different.
The following Problems in Leon-Garcia seem interesting.
These are ungraded exercises so you are not guaranteed
to get the solution keys for them. Also, recall that
when the problems were posted some of the topics for
the midterm were not yet covered, so you may need to
read ahead to do some of them, and new problems may
be added.
