For some useful hints on relaated techniques:
- Bruno Preiss's Opus has information on hash functions for character strings.
- Some related techniques which are not applicable here (since they assume you know all the hash keys in advance) include:

  - The GNU perfect hash function by Douglas Schmidt (for design details, see: A Perfect Hash Function Generator ).
