We are inviting applications for a PhD position in computer science in the Data mining and management lab (http://www.cs.albany.edu/~petko/lab/) at University at Albany-SUNY, Albany, NY, USA to work with Prof. Petko Bogdanov. The position is in the general area of data mining and social network analysis. The specific funded project is on scalable simulation of information diffusion in online social networks. The project is funded by DARPA through the SocialSim program (https://www.darpa.mil/program/computational-simulation-of-online-social-behavior).  

Candidate Profile:
- Masters Degree (or Bachelors) in computer science, computer engineering, applied mathematics or statistics.
- Strong background in data mining, machine learning and graph theory
- Strong programming skills in at least one programming language 
- Good communication skills
- Prior research experience in data mining, social network analysis and modeling, statistics or algorithm design is a plus
