The (k, n) SIS method has the property that either all the shares are reconstructed completely with k shares or not reconstructed at all. This property is not suitable for certain applications which need a gradual reconstruction. The (k, n) SSIS method aims to achieve gradual reconstruction with smooth scalability. In this method, a low quality image is reconstructed with k shares and as the available shares increases to n, highest quality of the image is obtained.
