A Secure and Privacy-aware Cloud-based Architecture for Online Social Networks

Feasibility Analysis

We implemented a proof of concept level execution of the proposed online social network architecture in a lab environment. The main objectives of this prototype implementation were to test the aptness of Shamir’s secret sharing of multimedia in an online social network environment, to check whether the proposed architecture can create user friendly interfaces for users to interact with, and to measure the added computational overhead in the proposed architecture.

Therefore, this simplified proof of concept implementation had only one database server, in which all the cloud datacenters (five of them) and the Advertiser resided in. Furthermore, no TLS/SSL sessions were used in the experiment setup; hence, the certificate authority was not required and was not present in the prototype implementation. Important functionalities were tested in the experiment setup with two online social network users. Those tests are as follows.
